Electric cars are a trendy trend. The main emphasis is on the environmental friendliness of this vehicle. However, electric cars have many other advantages, thanks to which they are gaining popularity.
Speaking about the advantages of such machines, they somehow forget to mention their inherent disadvantages. And they are able to quickly spoil all the pleasant experiences of operating an electric vehicle. Therefore, we will get to know them in more detail.
Disadvantages of electric vehicles
- Relatively high price. If we compare two vehicles of the same class with similar characteristics, one of which is driven by the good old internal combustion engine, and the other by electric motors powered by batteries, the cost of the latter will be significantly higher. This is largely explained by the less mass production of electric cars. The more mass lots such cars will be produced, the smaller the difference in price.
- Continuous charging of the electric car. If you charge the car’s batteries from a 220V home power supply, the process of restoring their capacity will take several hours. Special fast charging stations allow you to restore energy levels to 80% in just 40 minutes. But even such a period can be too long if urgent matters have arisen. In this case, cars with internal combustion engines look much more advantageous, since pouring fuel into the tank is a matter of 5 minutes.
- Expensive batteries. To provide the electric car with a large power reserve, powerful batteries are installed in it, consisting of a large number of batteries. The warranty on them from the car manufacturer is 5-8 years. Of course, they can be operated significantly longer, but after this period their capacity will decrease to 70%. And it will continue to decline, which will affect the power reserve. We'll have to think about the complete replacement of all batteries, which in the end will result in considerable financial expenses. The battery life may be shorter than that declared by the manufacturer as a result of improper use of the car or damage to an accident.
- Silent electric vehicles. Silence in the cabin of such a car is a definite plus for the driver and passengers. But a virtually silent ride can cause pedestrian accidents. They simply won’t hear the car approaching, inadvertently stepping on the carriageway. In this case, much depends on the attentiveness and reaction of the driver of the electric car.
- Lack of appropriate infrastructure. Stationary charging stations that allow relatively quick recovery of battery power are not enough even in large cities. In provincial settlements, they may not be at all. In this case, you can use the charging station map for electric vehicles and find the nearest station. Also, problems may arise with the maintenance and repair of electric vehicles, the purchase of new spare parts and batteries.
Despite the presence of these shortcomings, the situation is gradually improving as more and more such cars appear on the roads. Still, electric cars have more advantages, so you can soon expect that internal combustion engines will begin to quickly lose ground.
