Electric vehicles have been mass-produced for more than 10 years. More and more drivers in Ukraine decide to get behind the wheel of this innovative and environmentally friendly transport. To comfortably use an electric car, you need to consider the features and types of their connectors for refueling before buying. This will avoid unpleasant surprises. One of the most popular types of connectors today is Type 2 charging. You can buy equipment with the presented connector and other ports for our company's famous brands of electric cars.

The history of the creation of Type 2 (Mennekes)

Electric cars can be charged from a standard household outlet. For this, a unique charging adapter is provided. It transforms the AC into a DC. This method allows you to charge the battery of an electric car in at least 10 hours. Some brands of cars are fully charged in a few days.

To speed up this process, specific standards have been developed. For example, in Europe, a new Type 2 connector has been used since 2013. It is also called Mennekes, after the company that designed it. This is a German developer who created one of the most popular charging standards in Europe today.

A charging station with a Type 2 connector is considered universal. The presented type of connector appeared after the Type 1 connector was developed in 2009. It was used mainly in the USA and Asian countries.

Features of connectors of the second type

Connectors Type 2 have 7 pins. For comparison, the socket of the first type of charger is equipped with 5 pins. In contrast, a charging station with a second type connector can be connected to both single-phase and three-phase networks. The features of the type 2 connector are as follows:

  • installed in all vehicles intended for operation in Europe;

  • compatible with station Mode 2 and Mode 3;

  • maximum power - 7.4 kW (for a 220 V network) and 43.5 kW (for a 380 V network);

  • limit voltage - 400 V;

  • maximum current - 63 A.

The presented device was modified in the USA, allowing charging Tesla models with a power limit of up to 120 kW.
