TOP-13 electric crossovers: a review of production models

For a long time, electric cars were represented by small cars with modest power plants or luxury expensive cars. The first and for a long time the only electric car in the class of crossovers is the Tesla Model X. Since crossovers have long gained incredible popularity among car owners, the mass appearance of cars of this class with electric motors was only a matter of time. And now electric crossovers finally began to appear one after another. And we can safely say that electric crossovers will become the most massive cars shortly.

Below is an overview of the production electric crossover models that are already on sale or are about to be released.

Jaguar I-Pace

Jaguar's electric crossover was first unveiled to the general public in 2018. The car is equipped with a 90 kWh battery and a pair of electric motors with a total capacity of 394 hp. The average cruising range is 400 km. The maximum speed is 200 km / h. In terms of dimensions, the Jaguar I-Pace is slightly inferior to the Tesla Model X, due to which it has more convenient control on winding roads. The car has four-wheel drive.

Hyundai Kona Electric

Hyundai's electric crossover has more modest dimensions than its European classmates. Moreover, it costs significantly less. Korean manufacturers provide a choice of two options: a 64 kWh battery with a 150 kW electric motor or a 39.2 kWh battery with a 99 kW electric motor.

Kia Niro EV

Another Korean-made electric SUV. Although disputes between specialists do not subside, who the Niro is - a crossover or a hatchback. Like the previous model, Niro also has two modifications, including 64 and 39.2 kWh battery options, electric motors of similar power. The power reserve is 300 and 450 km, respectively. It should be noted that earlier this model could be bought in hybrid and plan-hybrid modifications. And now - a full-fledged electric car.

Audi e-tron quattro

This is the first mass-produced electric vehicle from Audi, which is a cross between the dimensions of the Q5 and Q7. The model has two 300 kW (408 hp) electric motors and a 95 kWh battery. The cruising range is about 400 km. The increase in the path length is possible due to the use of a multi-mode recuperation system. The new electric car supports the fast charging standard, which allows you to charge the battery by 80% in about 30 minutes from a 150 kW station. According to the manufacturer, in the future, the possibility of charging with a capacity of 350 kW will become available. The car has four-wheel drive.

Mercedes-Benz EQC

At the beginning of 2019, an electric crossover from Mercedes appeared on sale. The model is equipped with an 80 kWh battery and two electric motors, which together provide 408 hp. The top speed of this car is 180 km / h, and the range is 400-450 km. As in the Audi, here it is also possible to increase the mileage by using a recuperation system. Using fast charging technology, the battery can be charged up to 80% in 40 minutes. The car has four-wheel drive.

Volvo XC40

The first electric car in the family of a renowned Swedish manufacturer. Two electric motors with a total capacity of 402 hp. and a 78 kW battery provide the ability to travel about 400 km without recharging. The fast-charging capability allows you to charge the battery up to 80% in about 40 minutes.

BMW iX3

The BMW concern was a little late at the start. The BMW iX3 electric SUV went on sale at the end of 2019. As the name implies, the well-known X3 model became the basis for this electric car. The car is equipped with a power plant of one 208 hp electric motor. and a battery with a capacity of 80 kW * h. The maximum speed is 180 km / h. The power reserve is about 400-450 km. The car has only rear-wheel drive. Station with a capacity of 150 kW. can charge the battery up to 80% in 30-35 min.

Ford Mach 1

Ford released an all-electric crossover in the form of the Mustang Mach 1 (the model appeared back in 1968) The premiere of the electric car took place at the end of 2019. Mach 1 has a good range of modifications: with a single power plant with a capacity of 269 or 294 hp. and with two 351 hp electric motors. The power reserve for single-engine units is 355 and 475 km, for twin-engine units - from 325 to 425, depending on the characteristics of the battery. Very shortly, the manufacturer plans to release another GT model. Its characteristics are not yet known for sure, but it is planned that it will be equipped with two 465 hp electric motors. and have a power reserve of about 400 km without recharging.

Tesla Model Y

While the rest of the auto giants are only releasing their first electric SUVs to the masses, the sale of the second electric crossover from Tesla, Model Y, started in the spring of 2020. The new off-road electric car is inferior in size to Model X. At the same time, Y has 4 modifications - two rear-wheel drive with one electric motor and two all-wheel drive with two power plants. The first two options have a 271 hp electric motor. and a battery of 50 kW * h (power reserve 390 km.) and 75 kW * h. (power reserve 483 km.). The all-wheel-drive options are equipped with a 326 hp electric motor. (cruising range 508 km.) and 450 hp (cruising range 507 km.).

Byton M-Byte

Chinese electric crossovers are closely following the recognized leaders in the automotive industry. China is developing several electric cars at once, but most of them exist so far only in the form of concepts and they are still very far from mass production.

The Byton M-Byte, which went on sale in 2020, has two versions - with rear and all-wheel drive. The rear-wheel-drive car is equipped with a single 200 kW electrical installation. (272 hp), 72 kWh battery and has a cruising range of about 360 km. The four-wheel-drive version already has two 300 kW electric motors. (408 hp) and a 95 kWh battery. Using fast charging capabilities, you can restore 80% energy in about 35 minutes.

Rivian

They planned to release their R1S jeep and R1T pickup in mid-2020, but now they start of production has been postponed to 2021. So far, it is known that electric SUVs will have 4 power plants (one for each wheel), together with giving 760 hp. and three batteries to choose from - 105, 135, and 180 kWh. The declared cruising range is 644 km.

Faraday Future FF91

The FF91 model is a kind of long-term electric car. For the first time, the model was announced back in 2016, and the release of a fully finished production model was scheduled for 2017-2018. Then the release of the model was postponed to 2019, later - to the end of 2020 ... All that is still known about this electric car is the use of a power plant of three engines with a total capacity of 1063 hp, a battery with a capacity of 130 kW * h, the ability to accelerate to 100 km / h in just 2.4 seconds and a power reserve of just over 600 km. And also - a luxurious interior, which will include 11 screens, 4 4G modems, image projection on the windshield, artificial intelligence with face recognition (scanners are built into the roof pillars), an air conditioner with auto-correction depending on geographic location and season ... The price for all this luxury is appropriate - about 300,000 US dollars.

Volkswagen I.D. Crozz

Under the name I.D. Crozz in 2017, a concept was presented, which for its serial production received a different name - I.D.4. This model is expected on sale in early 2021. The electric car is planned to be produced in two modifications: rear-wheel drive with one electric motor 204 hp. and all-wheel drive with two engines with a total capacity of 204 hp. Multiple variations of batteries are assumed. The power reserve will be from 400 to 550 km. The stated fast charging time is 45 minutes to replenish 80% of the battery.

For a long time, the development of electric vehicles was constrained by seriously lagging infrastructure development. So, a few years ago, there were practically no electric filling stations in Ukraine. Now there are more than 300 of them.
